spring break camp 2017

Cliff Avenue United FC is excited to offer it’s 3rd Annual Spring Break Soccer Camp at Burnaby Lake West. The Spring Break Soccer Camp will be instructed by professional coaches who have years of experience working with young athletes.

The curriculum is designed by Cliff Avenue United FC Technical Director Kevin Julian. Kevin is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and earned his Masters degree in Kinesiology at UBC. Kevin holds his Premier Coaches Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as well as his National B License from the Canadian Soccer Association.

Guest Speakers: Angela Low: Angela’s professional life orbits around understanding, designing and teaching supports for children’s development of social and emotional competencies in the family context. She works with the BC Association of Neighborhood Houses to integrate Social and Emotional learning (SEL) into their programs for families, and regularly consults with the Dalai Lama Center in their development of SEL resources and programs for families. She has run workshops on SEL, attachment, motivation and bullying for parents in several communities in Vancouver, and has been invited to speak on bullying, and emotion regulation at Burnaby schools.

David Hendry: David has been involved in youth and professional soccer coaching for over 15 years. Originally from Scotland, he spent a number of years as an Academy Coach at Glasgow Rangers FC having previously worked for the Scottish FA as a coach educator and football development officer. As part of the team Europe initiative he has also coached players from some of Europe's top clubs including FC Porto and Bayern Munich. Currently, David is studying a PhD in Skill Acquisition at UBC, where he also is an Assistant coach with the men's soccer team. He has several published research articles and book chapters on conditions of optimal practice and the psychology of expert soccer players.

Diane Rizzardo: Diane is a former UBC Varsity and Pro-am W League Women’s Whitecaps soccer player who graduated from physiotherapy at UBC and is now working in Sport and Orthopedic (at Metrotown Orthopedic & Sports Physiotherapy) and Clinical Pilates Physiotherapy (at Treloar Physiotherapy). She understands an athlete’s drive to compete and her goal is to get every client back functioning at their highest level as soon as possible.  Diane’s background in sport allows her to use sport specific exercises grounded in Pilates and manual therapy techniques to treat the whole body.  Her focus is to rehabilitate current injuries as well as to prevent further injuries from occurring while improving overall sport/fitness performance.  She has completed post graduate research in athlete injury prevention programs and is focusing on providing athletes the tools they need to both improve their overall power and stability but also prevent chronic overuse and alignment injuries from occurring before they sidelined from a possibly preventable injury.
